It was standing room only in Mather Elementary School Auditorium for the Pictured Rocks quarter launch Feb. 7 in Munising, Mich.
With 950 in attendance, including almost 500 schoolchildren, demand for the new quarter was heavy. Some $16,000 in quarters was traded for folding money at face value.
Children receive free examples.
“This new coin not only reflects one of the many unique features of the longest freshwater coastline in the United States, but also the breathtaking natural beauty of the state,” said Marc Landry, a Michigan native and Acting Associate Director of the Mint’s Numismatic and Bullion Directorate.
