Jerry Lewis gold medal proposed
The life of 81-year-old comedian Jerry Lewis would be given tribute with a Congressional gold medal under legislation sponsored by Sen. Robert Menendez, D-NJ, as S. 1603. Introduced June 13, the bill has been referred to the Senate Banking Committee.
Besides a career as a comic and movie star, Lewis has been an active champion for the Muscular Dystrophy Association (MDA) since the early 1950s. In 1966, he began the ?Jerry Lewis MDA Labor Day Telethon,? an annual television program that benefits children and adults affected by muscular dystrophy and related neuromuscular diseases.?The telethon has raised tens of millions of dollars over
the years.
