Illinois club celebrates 50 years
The Club of Illinois Numismatists celebrated its 50th anniversary at its regular meeting on April 8.
Every month since April 1960, it has been meeting every second Tuesday of the month at 7:30 p.m. The first meeting was held in a Homewood, Ill., jail cell.
The club now meets at the senior center at the Hazel Crest, Ill., Municipal Building. The meetings are open to the public.
In 2007, the club elected its first female club president. Paulette Coffel-Montalto served as secretary for eight years prior to taking the role of president.
The group is selling a 50th anniversary medal. The fool’s gold-colored medal features a portion of the COINS logo on the reverse.
To order, send a money order for $10 per medal along with a self-addressed envelope with two stamps per medal to COINS, P.O. Box 849, Hazel Crest, IL 60429.
