Hurricane Katrina has forced organizers of the Money Show of the Southwest to move the 2006 event up one week.
The George R. Brown Convention Center changed the dates of the show from Jan. 27-29 to Jan. 20-22. Dealer set-up will begin at 2 p.m. on Thursday, Jan. 19.
Many events scheduled for New Orleans were moved to Houston because of the storm, causing events in Houston to be rescheduled because of convention space and hotel room availability in the immediate vicinity.
“While we were given several options by the convention center, none of them were our dates,” said Carl Schwenker, show chairman. “Houston has opened its heart and doors to evacuees of the hurricane and that includes conventions. Little did I suspect that the storm that drowned New Orleans would significantly impact our show.”
Hotels have agreed to honor the show’s room block for the earlier week and deposits and reservations will be automatically shifted to the new dates. The City of Houston has issued an open letter explaining the situation and asking hotels and airlines to honor obligations received through Priceline and other discount hotel/airline suppliers. Request the letter from the Money Show via e-mail, themoneyshow@houston.rr.com.
