The devastation left by Hurricane Katrina has led to an outpouring of donations and support from the numismatic community.
Tucson Coin & Autograph of Tucson, Ariz., will donate 10 percent of all sales of its remaining extra-leaf variety Wisconsin quarters from now until the end of the year to relief efforts related to Hurricane Katrina.
“I don’t think they’ve scratched the surface yet on just how big a disaster this is,” said owner Brett Sadovnick.
The coin shop hasn’t picked a charity organization yet. One possibility, according to Sadovnick is B’nai B’rith.
Tucson Coin & Autograph has been involved in similar causes. In 1999, the shop started giving away free state quarters to those who brought in cans of food for the local food bank. Sadovnick is hoping the company’s hurricane relief efforts will be just as successful.
“We raised over 10 tons of food for the food bank,” said Sadovnick.
