Proof gold coins, collections of Morgan dollars and type rarities highlight Heritage Numismatic Auctions? Summer FUN sale, set for July 12-13.

The sale is the official auction of the inaugural Summer Florida United Numismatists convention to be held in West Palm Beach, Fla.


Matte proof gold among top auction lots at Summer FUN.

Among Heritage?s gold offerings are 1912 and 1913 proof Saint-Gaudens $20s. The 1912, graded Proof-67 by Numismatic Guaranty Corp., is one of 74 proofs of the sandblast matte finish, Heritage catalogers said.

The 1913, from a matte proof mintage of 58 pieces, which was the second lowest in the series, is graded NGC Proof-67. Only two pieces have been certified finer by the grading firm, catalogers wrote.

An 1879-S Liberty $20, graded MS-64 by Professional Coin Grading Service, is the finest known, catalogers said, noting that this date is difficult in top grade.

Gold $10s include an 1850-O in NGC MS-60, an 1878 in PCGS Proof-63 that was once in the Trompeter collection, a 1901-S in NGC MS-67 and a 1920-S Indian eagle in NGC MS-62.

The top known 1863-S gold $5, graded NGC AU-58, joins an 1807 Capped Bust $5 in PCGS MS-65 and a 1912-S $5 in PCGS MS-64 in the half eagle section. Quarter eagles include an 1856-S in PCGS MS-64, an 1890 in NGC MS-66 and a key 1911-D Indian in PCGS MS-65

An 1861 gold dollar, PCGS MS-67, is described as ?A sharply struck beauty ? the sole MS-67 with none finer.? Also offered is an 1885 gold dollar, NGC Proof-68 Cameo, again with none certified finer as of May 2007, according to sale catalogers.

An AU-53 1793 Chain cent is in Heritage?s Summer FUN auction July 12-13. PCGS has seen four in this grade and 21 finer, according to sale catalogers.

Among type coins featured are a 1793 Chain cent, Sheldon 3, graded PCGS AU-53; a 1916-D Mercury dime in NGC MS-65 *, a 1796 quarter in ANACS AU-58 Details, the only NGC MS-68 1916 Walking Liberty half dollar with none certified finer and a 1921-S Walking Liberty half in PCGS MS-64. Several type coins are from the Gary Vanek collection.

Coins from two named Morgan dollar collections appear in the Summer FUN sale, the Reuben Reinstein collection and the Silver Fox collection.
Morgan highlights include an 1882-O/S, VAM 4, graded PCGS MS-65, an 1884-S in NGC MS-61 Deep Mirror Prooflike, an 1891-S in NGC MS-67, an 1893-CC in NGC MS-65, an 1893-O in NGC MS-65, an 1894 in PCGS MS-65, an 1896-O in NGC MS-65, a proof 1896 in NGC Proof-68 * Ultra Cameo and one of the proof-only 1895 Morgans in NGC Proof-65 Cameo.

Commemoratives include a 1915-S $50 Panama-Pacific Exposition octagonal $50 graded NGC MS-65. More classic commemoratives come from the Silver Fox collection.

Among patterns are two 1878 Morgan dollar patterns, Judd 1565, as well as an 1870 standard silver dollar, William Barber?s Seated Liberty design, in PCGS Proof-64.

The sale also includes a gold ingot from the S.S. Central America. The 36.40-ounce Kellogg & Humbert bar is 52mm tall, 41mm wide and 30mm deep, and reads: ?No 1028 / 36.40 OZ / 825 FINE / $620.77.?
