High-grade examples of U.S. coinage from from Colonial times to modern, will be offered by Heritage Auction Galleries in its Platinum Night sale session, part of the firm?s Jan. 9-12 Florida United Numismatists auction.
The consignment, dubbed the Madison Collection, features a 1933 Indian Head $10 graded MS-65 by Professional Coin Grading Service.
This collection alone is valued at $10 million, the auction firm says, calling it the anchor of the Platinum Night sale.
?The collector sought a representative of everything that had passed for money in the geographical United States, from Colonial to modern times,? said Greg Rohan, president of Heritage.
A few highlights from the Madison Collection include a 1652 NE shilling, graded AU-50 by Numismatic Guaranty Corp.; 1652 Oak Tree shilling, NGC MS-65 and a Libertas Americana bronze medal, NGC MS-63 Brown.
Early U.S. coinage includes a 1794 half cent, NGC MS-65 Brown, and a 1794 large cent, ex. Eliasberg, PCGS MS-66 Red Brown; 1792 half disme, PCGS MS-63, and an 1805 quarter, NGC MS-66.
Gold includes, in addition to the 1933 eagle, a proof 1855 gold dollar, ex. Pittman, PCGS Proof-66 DCAM; 1907 gold $10 with rolled edge, PCGS MS-67; 1861-O gold $20, NGC AU-58; 1907 Saint-Gaudens $20, NGC MS-67.
Several Private or Territorial gold pieces are offered, one of them an 1855 Wass, Molitor $50 gold piece in PCGS MS-60.
Several patterns are highlighted by an 1879 $4 ?Stella,? Judd-1636, NGC Proof-64 Gilt.
