Michael Mochizuki has made available a set of elongated cents titled “Historic Railroads of Hawaii.” It features railways and a terminal that Mochizuki says played important roles in Oahu’s railroad history.

Featured on the four-piece set are:

• Waialua Agricultural Company’s Locomotive No. 6, 1919

• Ewa Plantation Company’s Loco-motive Ewa No. 1, 1890

• Oahu Railway and Land Company’s Locomotive No. 6, “Kauila”

• Oahu Railway and Land Company’s Honolulu Terminal Building, 1925

The set, made up of copper cents, is available for $8 including postage to U.S. addresses.

Collectors can also purchase the pieces separately. Cost is $2.50 per EC including postage to U.S. addresses.

ECs fund Japan relief

Michael Mochizuki of Hawaii is heading an elongated coin fund-raiser named “The Aloha Project” to benefit the Hawaii chapter of the American Red Cross for Japanese tsunami relief. The elongated design, rolled on copper cents, features the word “aloha” with the “o” colored red to represent the Japanese flag.

NCIC to train law enforcement

The Numismatic Crime Information Center will offer a training course Oct. 18 for law-enforcement personnel who investigate numismatic crimes. The class is being held in conjunction with the American Numismatic Association’s Fall National Money Show in Dallas, which runs Oct. 18-20.
