Half dollar collection realizes $1.8 million

The all-time finest set of mint state Bust half dollars registered with NGC was sold in a private sale for more than $1.8 million.

A collector recently purchased the all-time finest set of mint state Bust half dollars registered with National Guaranty Corporation for $1,815,000 in a private sale announced by Heritage Auction Galleries.

This 1835 Bust half dollar is a part in the finest set of Mint state half dollar registred with NGC that was recently sold.

Many of the coins were originally purchased directly from te Eliasberg collection at public auction.

The highlights of the collection included an 1835 MS-67 NGC, 1815/2 MS-66 NGC, 1817/3 MS-66 NGC and 1827/6 MS-67 NGC.

The collection was assembled and sold by Phil Kaufman, who has sold several other collections through Heritage?s auctions.

?Phil bought most of the nicest coins in the Eliasberg auction in 1997, when spent the next nine years upgrading as many of the coins as he could. And Phil has a great eye! So the coins are beautiful,? said Heritage co-chairman Jim Halperin, whc handled the transaction for the firm.
