Group creates literary award

The National Token Collectors Association, a group of about 500 collectors of trade tokens, has initiated the “James J. Curto Annual Award.” It will be presented to the NTCA member voted to have written the best book on exonumia in the preceding year.

The National Token Collectors Association, a group of about 500 collectors of trade tokens, has initiated the “James J. Curto Annual Award.” It will be presented to the NTCA member voted to have written the best book on exonumia in the preceding year.

Curto, of Grosse Point, Mich., was a numismatist who lived 1902-1993. Among the books he authored are Military Tokens of the United States (1970), Military Tokens of the United States II (1978), Indian & Post Trader Tokens (1951), Post Exchange, Canteen and Other Military Tokens (1954), Sutlers and Their Tokens (1946). His works set a high standard for research and publication, according to the club.

NTCA will announce the first award in April.
