Fall colors and panoramic landscapes of the Grand Canyon will be the backdrop as the U.S. Mint and National Park Service introduce the fourth coin in the America the Beautiful quarter series. The new coin, featuring Grand Canyon National Park, will be officially presented at a ceremony beginning at 1:30 p.m. MST Sept. 21 on the park’s South Rim.
Following the launch, $10 rolls of the new quarter will be available for purchase at face value. Children 18 years old and younger will receive a free quarter to commemorate the event.
The ceremony will be broadcast live on the Web at www.americathebeautifulquarters.gov.
On the evening prior to the event, the Mint will host a Collectors Forum. The public forum will provide collectors an opportunity to ask questions and discuss the future of U.S. coinage with Mint Director Ed Moy.
The America the Beautiful program is a 12-year initiative to honor 56 national parks and other national sites. The quarters are issued at the rate of five per year in the order in which the honored sites were first established as national sites.
