The British Royal Mint has announced that the U.K. Countdown to London 2012 silver piedfort and silver proof coins commemorating the countdown to the 2012 Olympic Summer Games are sold out, but GovMint (www.govmint.com) announced July 6 that the coins will be available to U.S. collectors as part of a four-coin set it will offer “in the very near future.”
With a mintage of 6,000, the silver piedfort coin represents the biggest selling piedfort in the Royal Mint’s history. The silver proof, issued for the same year with the same design, has seen a 30,000-piece sellout.
Commenting on the Royal Mint announcement, GovMint’s Chief Marketing Officer Randy Geyen confirmed that GovMint has already made sure that it has both the Countdown silver proof and silver piedfort coins on hand for North American collectors.
“As the United States distributor for the Royal Mint’s London 2012 Olympic Games coin program, we want to make sure that collectors won’t be disappointed,” said Geyen. “By law, the Royal Mint cannot sell Olympic coins directly into the United States, which is why they appointed GovMint as their distributor here.”
Detailed information on pricing and availability of the new set will be available at www.london2012coins.com or by calling GovMint at (800) 514-6468 (MINT).
