The Scotsman Midwest Winter Sale 2009 held Feb. 13 realized a total of $1,382,425.35.
“The bidding was very aggressive at this sale,” said John Bush, auction director.
Top coin highlight was a Clark, Gruber and Co. $10 gold piece with the “Pikes Peak Gold” design. It sold for $35,075. It was graded AU-58 by the Professional Coin Grading Service.
All prices here include a 15 percent buyer’s fee.
A high relief 1907 Saint-Gaudens gold $20 with wire rim grading MS-63 by PCGS fetched $20,125.
The auction also included 55 lots of high-grade 1911-S Indian Head $5 gold pieces. These were called the Golden Gate Collection.
An MS-62 example from the 1911-S group realized $2,700.
“Overall, there was a lot of strong bidding for the Golden Gate coins,” Bush noted.
