Gold coin buyers helped propel online sales results at GreatCollections.com to $828,000 in the month of August, reports Ian Russell, president.
Conducted during the month were almost 2,000 coin auctions.
The Anacapa Collection of U.S. gold coins realized $202,178. It included several U.S. rarities, notably the 1866-S Liberty Eagle No Motto graded AU-55 by Numismatic Guaranty Corp. and a 1907 Saint-Gaudens High Relief that NGC called MS-64, Russell said.
All of the coins listed on the site are graded by third-party grading services.
A set of 15 Indian Head quarter eagles sold for $66,000 Aug. 28. The set included an NGC MS-64+ 1911-D.
Russell described it as a superb set assembled over many years by a connoisseur.
“This ranks as one of the highest realizations for an online coin auction during 2011,” he added.
But he also said that the firm has “proven the depth of our client base by selling coins worth $50 alongside coins worth upwards of $50,000.
“Since our launch earlier this year, we have grown rapidly, increasing both the number of coins we offer and the number of customers we serve. We attribute this growth to positive word-of-mouth, as more and more collectors and dealers realize that we offer outstanding customer service and absolutely the lowest fees in the industry,” he explained.
