Gold Eagles near mintage limit

Only 76 proof American Eagle one-ounce gold coin remain to be sold for the Mint to reach its 30,000 mintage maximum as of Sept. 12. It is priced at $2,085. However even when that milestone is reached collectors will still be able to buy one if they have $3,863 to purchase a four-coin set that includes the ounce, half ounce, quarter ounce and tenth ounce. The Mint has sold 10,960 sets out of a possible 40,000.

Collectors have taken only a quarter of the 15,000 half-ounce proofs available. The current sales number stands at 3,805. Price is $1,056.

Demand for the quarter-ounce proof has been somewhat higher at 6,438 coins out of a possible 16,000 available. Its price is $540.50.

Nearly half of the tenth-ounce pieces have been taken, some 13,784 of out of a possible 30,000. Even with recent price hikes, it has a more affordable $230.50 price tag on it.
