Gold Buffaloes arrive earlier
One-ounce American Buffalo gold bullion coins were made available to the investment market by the U.S. Mint April 29.
This was almost six months earlier than when they became available in 2009 and was taken as a sign by market watchers that the Mint had a better handle on gold coin supply this year than last.
By press time, the Mint had not said when or even if the proof and uncirculated collector versions of the one-ounce Buffalo coin would go on sale this year.
Only Authorized Purchasers can buy the Buffalo bullion coin. These are large buyers that meet Mint financial criteria to be designated an AP. They in turn sell them to other coin dealers.
Gold and silver American Eagle bullion coins are also distributed in this way in the marketplace. As for availability of the collector versions of these coins, there was also no word by press time.
