Gold Buffalo reverse proof set
The U.S. Mint will offer an American Buffalo 1 ounce gold reverse proof coin later this year.
This special edition of the coin celebrates the centennial anniversary of the American Buffalo design by James Earle Fraser first featured on the Type 1 Buffalo, also known as Indian Head, nickel in 1913, according to Mike White, of the Mint public affairs office.
The coin will be minted to demand. Neither a price nor an on-sale date has yet been established.
The coin, which will be produced at the West Point Mint, will be sold individually. It will be packaged in the same wood box as the American Buffalo gold proof coin, but the outer box will feature a leather-like material so it is easily recognizable as a different product.
