Glacier collector coin goes on sale

A little more than 6,000 5-ounce silver 2011 America the Beautiful uncirculated coins honoring Glacier National Park were sold Oct. 25, the first day it was offered on the U.S. Mint website.

It was priced at $229.95, and has a limited mintage of 35,000.

For the first week of sales, the Mint limited orders to five coins per household.

The America the Beautiful 5-ounce silver uncirculated coins are collector versions of the coins issued through the America the Beautiful Silver Bullion Coin Program.

The 3-inch uncirculated coins feature the same designs that appear on the bullion coins and the corresponding circulating quarters issued through the America the Beautiful Quarters Program. The America the Beautiful 5-ounce silver uncirculated coins are struck in .999 fine silver and display the “P” mintmark, indicating that they were struck at the Philadelphia Mint.

Orders for the Glacier National Park America the Beautiful 5-ounce silver uncirculated coin are accepted at http://www.usmint.gov/catalog or at 1-800-USA-MINT (872-6468). Like all coins containing precious metals, pricing is subject to change at the Mint’s discretion, and a $4.95 charge will be added to all orders for shipping and handling fees.
