Gateway issues 50th anniversary medal

The Gateway Coin Club, Inc. was established in September 1962 at Lackland Air Force Base in San Antonio, Texas. The base is known as “The Gateway to the Air Force,” thus the club name.

The club has not held meetings at the base since 1974, but it has continued to meet in the city of San Antonio.

A special 50th anniversary banquet was held Sept. 20 to celebrate the club’s milestone, and a commemorative medal was struck for the occasion. It was presented to club members in attendance.

The medal was designed by Gateway Coin Club President Frank Galindo, who also serves as medals officer for the Texas Numismatic Association.
