FUN names new Ambassadors

Six individuals were made Numismatic Ambassadors Jan. 5 at the Florida United Numismatists Ambassador Breakfast in Tampa.

Award founder Clifford Mishler emceed the event. This was the third breakfast held by FUN since it took over the award from Numismatic News.

Ambassadors are recognized for their hard work and contributions to the betterment of organized numismatics.

This year’s inductees are:

• Steve Feller of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, and his daughter Ray Feller- of Jamaica Plain

• Bradley Karoleff of Cincinnati, Ohio

• Thomas Mulvaney of Lexington, Ky.

• Dennis Tucker of Atlanta, Ga.

• Thomas Uram of Eighty-Four, Pa.

All were present except Tucker. Uram accepted the award plaque on his behalf.

There biographies are as follows:

Steve and Ray Feller: Steve is a numismatic speaker and writer on Military Payment Certificates, Civil War, ancients and short-snorters. He received the American Numismatic Association Presidential Award, Numismatic Literary Guild book award, International Bank Note Society and Society of Paper Money Collectors article awards. Steve co-authored Silent Witnesses, Civilian Camp Money of World War II. Member ANA, Garden State Numismatic Association, Cedar Rapids Coin Club, IBNS editor for 17 years, MPC Fest co-educational chair, NLG, and American Israel Numismatic Association. He has written over 70 articles in the IBNS and other publications.

A numismatic speaker and writer, Ray is interested in MPC, Civil War, ancients and short-snorters. She has been published in IBNS, SPMC and has received the ANA Presidential Award and NLG Book award. Co-author of Silent Witnesses, Civilian Camp Money of World War II. Member ANA, NLG, AINA, IBNS, MPC Fest co-educational chair, and Currency Club of Nebraska.

Bradley Karoleff: A lifelong coin collector with a specialization in the early coins of the Philadelphia Mint. He is the proprietor of Coins Plus, which operates four locations in the greater Cincinnati, area. He is a member of the Board of Governors of the Central States Numismatic Society and is also president of the John Reich Collectors Society. He was appointed co-editor of the John Reich Journal in 1991 and has served as its only editor since 1998. He is a co-author of Early Quarter Dollars of the United States Mint and has contributed to numerous other numismatic books. He is a frequent speaker at regional and national numismatic educational forums. Karoleff is also a longtime Coin World columnist, writing about early U.S. coins in “Designs of the Times.” He is an award-winning member of the Numismatic Literary Guild. Member ANA, NLG, JRCS, CSNS, FUN, and more.

Thomas Mulvaney: He has been in numismatics for over 40 years. He is best known as a coin photographer. He teaches coin photography at the American Numismatic Association Summer Seminar. He has attended every major coin show over the years. He was an ANA governor 2015-2017. Member ANA, FUN and CSNS.

Dennis Tucker: He is a contributor and publisher of the Red Book. He was appointed to the Citizens Coinage Advisory Committee. He is the publisher of Whitman Publishing since 2004. He teaches courses on writing, editing, research and publishing at the ANA Summer Seminar. He has written over 150 numismatic articles in various numismatic publications. He consults with many numismatic organizations and government entities worldwide. He has received numerous numismatic awards including 60 NLG awards. Member ANA, NLG, Rittenhouse Society and many more.

Thomas J. Uram: He was recently elected an ANA governor. He is president of the Pennsylvania Association of Numismatists. He is on the CCAC advisory committee. He has been active in numismatics for over 40 years and has served as an officer in local coin clubs. He has spoken and exhibited at local, regional, and national coin shows. He received the ANA Presidential Award in 2011. He is a member of ANA, PAN, FUN, CSNS and local clubs.
