Enough orders have been taken to declare a sellout of the two Benjamin Franklin commemorative silver dollars.
A total of 50,000 Founding Father proof coins are being held back for the 2006 U.S. Mint American Legacy Collection to be offered later this year.
According to sales figures released by the U.S. Mint on Feb. 1, there have been 142,000 sales of the proof versions of both the ?Scientist? and the ?Founding Father? Franklins. The Mint is also reporting that the uncirculated Scientist and Founding Father versions have sold 58,000 each, to go along with 50,000 uncirculated Scientist coins in the Franklin Coin & Chronicles sets. Numbers have been rounded by the Mint. Maximum mintage is 500,000 of the two designs combined.
As with the Marine commemorative, the Mint is continuing to take orders and placing names on a waiting list.
According to the Mint, ?If you choose to place an order and product becomes available, you will be considered ?next in line,? and your order will be processed on a first-in, first-out basis.?
The U.S. Mint cannot provide specific ranking information on customer orders either online or by telephone.
If paying by credit card, be sure the expiration date is not before June 2006. The Mint says that it will notify customers if their orders cannot be fulfilled.
A customer who pays by check and does not receive an order will receive a refund. The Mint reserves the right to accept or reject product orders.
