Former executive director of the Professional Numismatists Guild Paul L. Koppenhaver died Dec. 1 at 80.

Mr. Koppenhaver held his PNG post from 1978 to 1995. He received the PNG’s Abe Kosoff Founders Award in 1983 for his significant contributions to the organization.

“Paul Koppenhaver served the PNG with distinction during a decade and a half of significant growth and changes in the numismatic marketplace, from the boom-to-bust period of the late 1970s and early 1980s, to steady growth and expansion in the early 1990s,” said Robert Brueggeman, PNG executive director who succeeded Koppenhaver in 1995.

“Paul was a friend and mentor to hundreds of dealers nationwide, guiding them and the PNG in the organization’s code of knowledge, integrity and responsibility,” said PNG President Jeffrey Bernberg.
