For the first time the Contra Costa Coin Show, sponsored by Diablo Numismatic Society, will benefit the Food Bank of Contra Costa and Solano, counties in northern California.
A portion of all coin show admission fees will be donated directly to the food bank.
The show will be held Oct. 11-12 at the Holiday Inn of Concord, Calif.
The Food Bank of Contra Costa and Solano is in urgent need, according to the society. Cash and food donations have declined while the demand for its services has steadily increased. The Food Bank of Contra Costa and Solano currently provides meals to 82,000 hungry people every month, the society said.
More than 30 West Coast dealers will be on hand at the October show to offer free appraisals as well as buy, sell and trade U.S., world and ancient coins. Paper money, medals, tokens, estate jewelry and watches, casino chips and coin hobby supplies will also be offered.
The show will feature a youth coin exhibit courtesy of Boy Scout Troop #465. There will also be prizes and free drawings for coins.
Show hours are 10 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. on Oct. 11 and 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Oct. 12. General admission is $2 per person, good for both days. Children under 12 are admitted for free.
The Concord Holiday Inn has a special rate of $79 per night for those requiring overnight accommodations. Call (888) 263-8555 and ask for the “coin show rate.”
In addition to supporting the food bank, Diablo Numismatic Society will use its show proceeds to benefit hobby educational programs. For more information, call Bill Green at (925) 351-7605 or visit the club’s Web site at www. diablocoinclub.org.
