Production of the new five-ounce silver bullion versions of the America the Beautiful quarters began in Philadelphia the week of Sept. 20, the Mint says.

Planned output for each of the five 2010 designs will be 100,000 pieces. They will be produced in the same order as the circulating quarters and sold through the Mint’s network of authorized purchasers. Price will be based in part on the value of silver bullion plus the Mint’s production costs.

The five designs also will be sold in sequence rather than simultaneously.

A decision regarding production of collector versions of these three-inch diameter 2010 coins has not yet been made by the Treasury.
