First woman receives club award

Westchester County Coin Club member Lora Robins received the Ernest H. Bain Award, the club

Westchester County Coin Club member Lora Robins received the Ernest H. Bain Award, the club?s highest honor, at its 74th anniversary gathering May 1 in Hastings-on-Hudson, N.Y.

According to the club, the award is given annually ?to that special individual who best exemplifies inspiration to all of us in continuing in the great joys of collecting.?

Since 2005, Robins has encouraged numismatic literacy and friendship within the club membership by organizing monthly study groups to work through the five correspondence courses offered by the American Numismatic Association.

The recipient was determined by majority vote of the WCCC membership by secret mail and in-person ballot. Robins is the eighth recipient of the award and the first female club member to be so recognized.

More than 50 people attended the anniversary meeting. Jon Lerner, current president, and John P. Jensen, life member and past president, displayed non-competitive exhibits. Numismatic error expert Richard Schemmer was the guest speaker for the event.
