Sales of 2012 First Spouse half-ounce gold coins slowed after a flurry of initial demand for the Alice Paul design during its first four days of availability starting Oct. 11.
In the seven-day sales period preceding the Oct. 22 Mint sales report, collectors purchased another 302 proof examples of the Paul design and 178 uncirculated coins, bringing the ongoing total for proofs to 2,110 coins and uncirculateds to 1,572 pieces.
The First Spouse coin depicts women’s suffrage leader Alice Paul because President Chester A. Arthur’s wife did not live to become First Lady.
Paul was born during Arthur’s term of office.
Price of the proof is $1,029 and the uncirculated is $1,016, though these are subject to change as the price of gold fluctuates. To order, visit the Mint’s website at www.usmint.gov, or telephone (800) USA-MINT.
