The first two First Spouse gold coins honoring Martha Washington and Abigail Adams sold out June 19, the first day they were offered to collectors.
With a maximum mintage of 40,000 pieces for each design, the coins were priced at $429.95 for the proofs and $410.95 for the uncirculateds.
There was an order limitation of five coins per household per sales option.
A Mint spokesperson did not have the order breakdowns between proofs and uncirculateds on the afternoon of June 19, but said that the Mint?s Web site handled the orders without problem.
The Mint continued selling the coins for a time after the sellout point was reached, in case some orders were cancelled or credit cards are declined as the coins are shipped to customers beginning July 5.
