Myrna Lighterman was named the first winner of a Numismatic Ambassador Award in 2008.

The award was given Jan. 12 at a meeting of the Casino Chip & Gaming Token Collectors Club, Florida Chapter, meeting.

In making the presentation, Numismatic News editor Dave Harper said that Lighterman was a lifelong collector who had gotten into organized numismatics as a volunteer in the 1990s.

Her nominator wrote that ?she started ordering proof sets and putting away silver dollars.?

In the early 1990s she started working behind her son Mark?s table and then became a volunteer for FUN, the American Numismatic Association and the casino token group.

True to form, she was working the ANA table during the convention.

The Numismatic Ambassador Award was created by Numismatic News in 1974 to recognize the hobby?s often unrecognized volunteer workers who make organized numismatics possible.

Winners are selected by a vote of current award holders.
