Final Buffalo totals resemble March
Final audited Mint figures for proof 2008 gold Buffalo coins are fairly close to the last sales figures reported in March 2009.
Revised numbers that surfaced in hobby circles in late November showed significant deviations from them and raised more questions than answers at the time.
Author Eric Jordan suspected errors and following release of the final audited numbers, he e-mailed, “When I looked over the numbers, they were practically the same as the Sept. 30th, 2009, dated report.
“The bottom line is the Mint reported data is normally a refining process. First comes the weekly sales report that shows orders taken not coins shipped or returned. It always has ‘noise’ in the data. Then due to constant bombardment from guys like us, the Mint comes out with a late interim report after they close the books on sales on Sept 30th, but the report is not noted as audited. As such it can have imperfections.”
