A ceremony to launch into circulation the Presidential dollar coin honoring 13th U.S. President Millard Fillmore is set for 10 a.m. Feb. 18 at the Moravia Central School in Moravia, N.Y.
Fillmore was born in a log cabin in Moravia in 1800. He served as vice president from 1849 to 1850 and assumed the presidency upon the death of Zachary Taylor. He held that position until 1853.
Deputy Director Andrew Brunhart will represent the Mint at the coin launch. Master of Ceremonies will be local history teacher John Haight, and Sheila Tucker, Cayuga Count historian, is scheduled to speak.
Three local banks will offer a coin exchange for attendees to turn in their dollars for the new coin.
