In mid-June, Heritage Auctions announced a quarterly essay contest for Young Numismatists. The first winners were announced in late July.
Taylor Webb, 12, of California was named the winner for his essay titled “Mentors of Numismatists.”
“It was our intention to select our first winning essay in October, but we received so many fine entries that we were able to award the first set of prizes now,” said Robert Korver, contest judge.
Webb won $750 in credits for American Numismatic Association YN Dollars plus dues for his local coin club and ANA YN membership. His essay will also be printed and distributed to every numismatic shipment sent by Heritage for the next quarter.
Honorable Mention winners are Kyle Woolard, 15, of Ontario for “Ancient Silver Coin Found in Junk Coin Box,” Chelsea Blair, 10, of California for “The Wonder of Coins” and Adriana Tsang, 8, of Massachusetts for “I Love Butterflies!”
Each will receive $50 and an ANA YN membership.
All winning essays can be read at www.ha.com/ynessay.
