A new three-design set of elongateds engraved by Lee Bowser pays tribute to St. Damien of Molokai.

A new three-design set of elongateds engraved by Lee Bowser pays tribute to St. Damien of Molokai.

The Belgian, who was ordained at 24 in Honolulu, Hawaii, went to the island of Molokai in 1873 to work with the people who had been sent there because they were suffering from leprosy. He contracted the disease and died in 1889. He was canonized last year.

The designs show a young Damien, a mature man and statue of him in Honolulu.

A six-coin set that features the three designs on cents and on three Hawaiian quarters is priced at $10. Send check or money order to Vicky Bowser, 13898 Masters Drive, Alexander, AR 72002-9667.
