A rare 1880 Flowing Hair $4 gold Stella was sold April 19 for $525,000 by Eastern Numismatics of Garden City, N.Y. The sale was made by Joseph Parrella, at left in photo, vice president, and Eugene Parrella, president of the firm.
The firm says the price is a record and the coin was purchased for an unnamed client.
?This was a tremendous opportunity and we are very pleased that we were able to acquire this coin on behalf of our client,? said Joseph Parrella.
Only 15 pieces were originally struck.
