Doughnuts and donors make world go round

I found a doughnut at my desk this morning.
I wondered what the occasion was.
To put it in my own words, it is “need a doughnut Wednesday.”
Never heard of it?
Neither have I, but that isn’t the point.
It was just an act of kindness by a member of the editorial staff.
Naturally, I wolfed it down.
I am a bit like Homer Simpson when it comes to doughnuts.
But as the sugar rush reached my brain I begin to think about all of the acts of kindness performed in low-key fashion by the nation’s coin dealers.
Who donates frequently and regularly to Young Numismatist programs?
Dealers.
Who gives the prizes for the YN auctions where the kids use play money to bid with?
Dealers.
Who give programs at local coin club meetings when no one else steps forward?
Dealers.
I could go on and on.
These acts of kindness have made the organized hobby a better place for all of us during the 50 or so years I have been a collector.
Some cynics might argue that it is all in dealers’ self interest.
And if the doughnut donor here asks me to do a favor, what do you think my response will be?
For kind acts, donations and doughnuts, the only proper response is simply to say, “Thank you.”
