The unique 1787 Brasher doubloon Steven L. Contursi purchased in 2005 was the inspiration for the name of his new brand of wine, Arrow&Branch, just released by him.

The eagle on the famous gold coin is depicted clutching arrows in one talon and an olive branch in the other.

“This subsequently was a common design theme on many United States coins, indicating that America wants peace but also has the strength and willingness to defend itself,” said Contursi. “I named our Arrow&Branch Estate Vineyard in Napa and our wines in recognition of that familiar design.”

The bottle labels depict arrows and a branch with Latin words, “TELUM” (arrow) and “STIPES” (branch). The first production of the wines was released April 26.

The unique Brasher doubloon with designer Ephraim Brasher’s hallmark is insured by Contursi for $7.5 million.
