With his design, “Liberty Alive,” graphic artist and illustrator Chris Costello has been named the winner of the first ANA auction catalog cover design competition sponsored by Kagin’s Auctions.
An independent panel of judges chose the winner from more than 130 designs submitted by more than 50 artists ranging from amateur Young Numismatists to professional artists.
Costello serves on the Board of Trustees for the Cyrus Dallin Art Museum and is a United States Mint Artistic Infusion Program Artist. He is credited with 15 designs that appear on American coins and medals. He was inspired by Kagin’s 1983 Peter Max “Lady Liberty” cover.
Costello will receive a prize of $5,000.
Sandra Deiana’s design was chosen as runner-up, and it will appear on the catalog’s back cover. She will receive a $500 prize.
