Denver cranks up March production
The Denver Mint almost doubled its circulating coin production in the month of March compared to February.
The third month’s output at the Colorado facility reached 403.42 million coins, up from 210.06 million in February.
Both cent and nickel production in Denver approximately tripled. Cent output went from 113.2 million in February to 281.6 million in March while nickel output jumped from 20.64 million to 67.44 million coins.
Philadelphia’s overall March coinage output rose modestly from the February number of 369.8 million coins to 371.28 million coins.
Cent output at the “P” mint jumped by 36.4 million pieces to take the March monthly total to 271.6 million pieces from 235.2 million.
Nickel production actually fell in March at Philadelphia from February levels, down 7.2 million coins from 55.2 million to a March total of 48 million.
Dime output at both facilities rose slightly.
At Denver, March dime production rose to 52.5 million coins from 50.5 million pieces in February. In Philadelphia, the gain was somewhat larger with the March total of 57 million up by 4.5 million pieces from the 52.5 million level in February.
Quarter output was at a near standstill in March. Denver turned out 200,000 coins while the Philadelphia Mint struck none.

Production of half dollars and Native American dollars also stood at zero in March at both mints.
Production of the Grover Cleveland dollar, the second Presidential design of 2012, commenced and the two facilities produced 1.68 million each.
Overall, production of cents through dollars at both facilities combined stood at 781.7 million coins in March as compared to 579.86 million in February and 802.5 million in January.
Coin production for the first quarter of calendar year 2012 stands at 2.16406 billion coins.
