The declining trend line for production of District of Columbia and U.S. Territories quarters continued right through the sixth and final member of the series, the latest Mint report reveals.
The Northern Mariana Islands quarters now have the distinction of having the lowest mintages of 2009.
The Denver production came in at 37.6 million pieces while Philadelphia registered an even lower total of 37.6 million coins.
Combined the output was 72.8 million quarters. This was almost 100 million fewer than the first coin of the series, the District of Columbia quarter, which at the time of its release seemed very scarce.
There were only 636.2 million 2009-dated quarters (some were struck in 2008).
