The Central States Numismatic Society will include a Boy Scout Merit Badge Clinic on May 1 as the focal point of activities aimed at younger collectors during its 71st Annual Convention in Milwaukee.
The clinic will be conducted by the Milwaukee Numismatic Society and will be the 30th annual such affair hosted by members of that group.
“The Milwaukee Numismatic Society has a rich history of support for CSNS,” said Kevin Foley, general chairman of the CSNS convention. “Over the years several thousand Milwaukee area Boy Scouts have successfully completed the requirements for their coin collecting merit badge through the MNS Merit Badge Clinic.”
CSNS Governor Bruce Benoit will serve as YN coordinator for the convention.
“In addition to the Boy Scout Merit Badge Clinic, we’ll have a YN Treasure Hunt on Saturday at our convention,” said Benoit. “Younger collectors will be able to earn numismatic prizes by visiting the booths of cooperating dealers and providing the correct answer to numismatic knowledge questions. The YN Treasure Hunt has been a popular feature of the Central States convention for a number of years and I’m glad to be facilitating it for the numismatic community in my home city.”
CSNS will operate a YN activities booth during the April 30 and May 1 public hours of the convention. Participants will be able to meet with CSNS YN Committee members for mentoring of their numismatic interests. YNs will be able to search through accumulations of coins to begin filling complimentary Lincoln cent albums.
The convention will be held at Milwaukee’s Midwest Airlines Center. Host hotel is the Milwaukee Hilton City Center. Call (414) 271-7250 and mention “CSNS” for a special room rate of $137.
