Collectors purchased 6,514 of the 5-ounce silver 2012 El Yunque National Forest coins during the first few days they became available.
Maximum mintage is set at 25,000 coins. The collector coins have an uncirculated finish and carry a “P” mintmark.
This maximum is 10,000 coins less than what was in effect for the 2011-dated coins.
The bullion version of the El Yunque 5-ounce coin saw the Mint’s authorized distributors take 6,200. The Mint has set a target mintage of 50,000 for these.
There will be five designs issued dated 2012. Release will occur roughly on a monthly basis with the next one due July 9.
