The Bergen County Board of Chosen Freeholders, legislators for the New Jersey county, proclaimed the week of April 20-26, 2008, as National Coin Week in the county.

Resolution No. 498 was adopted by the board at its April 16 meeting. David L. Ganz, Numismatic News contributor, is a member of the board and sponsor of the resolution.

?I join this national celebration in recognition that coins reflect the economic development of their county of origin, as well as promote greater understanding of the history of the people who produce and use them,? said Ganz.

After outlining the importance and benefits of numismatics, the resolution called upon all of the county?s citizens to ?celebrate this week with programs and activities expanding their knowledge of numismatics and the joys of coin collecting.?

?Coin collecting is a hobby that the whole family can enjoy, while learning about history, important places, people and events,? said Dennis McNerney, Bergen County executive. ?Celebrating the value of coins attracts new collectors and creates a greater appreciation for money.?

According to the document, copies of the resolution were sent to officers and directors of the American Numismatic Association.
