The Shenandoah Valley Coin Club of Virginia created a .999 pure silver medal to celebrate its golden anniversary.
The one-ounce medal was struck and given to each club member. It was designed by member Holly Herman and struck by the Moffatt Mint in Eureka Springs, Ark.
The club was formed in Staunton, Va., in July 1959. There were 25 original charter members. Today the club meets monthly and boasts a membership of 67 collectors.
The club has held a coin show every year since 1964 and now holds two shows per year – one in April and one in December. It also holds an annual Christmas Banquet in December.
