A Civil War naval battle is the theme of a new wooden nickel issued by the Central Arkansas Coin Club.

In 1863 at the mouth of the Arkansas River at Fort Hindman in Arkansas Post there was an engagement between the Army of the Mississippi (U.S.) and the Confederate garrison of Fort Hindman. Although Union losses were high, they were victorious over the Confederates, but it did not contribute to the capture of Vicksburg.

The wooden nickel is full color with the obverse capturing the engagement at Fort Hindman and the reverse features club information and the lower band caption “Good for a Cup of Coffee or Soda.”

The only book on this specialized series of exposition, commemorative and monetary medals approximating dollar size.

The Fort Hindman wood is $1 each, or three for $2. If you order three you will be eligible for a free wood of the club’s choice while supplies are available.

All orders require a self-addressed, stamped heavy duty packing envelope.

The club also offers a vinyl sleeve with the 2011, 2012 and 2013 issues for $3.

Send orders to Tom Dodson, 6900 Skywood Road, Little Rock, AR 72207.
