A special plaque marking the Chickasaw National Recreation Area quarter as the 10th in the America the Beautiful series was presented Nov. 16 to the national recreation area’s superintendent, Bruce Noble, by B.B. Craig, the U.S. Mint’s associate director for sales and marketing.
The two had joined to co-host the official quarter debut event in Sulphur, Okla.
“When Americans receive this quarter depicting the Lincoln Bridge in their change,” Craig noted, “they will hold a piece of our American story in their hands.”
The limestone bridge itself had been dedicated in 1909 to celebrate the centennial of Abraham Lincoln’s birth, the Mint said.
Surrounding the image of the bridge are inscriptions CHICKASAW, OKLAHOMA, 2011 and E PLURIBUS UNUM.
Oklahoma State Representative Wes Hilliard was master of ceremonies. Dr. Amanda Cobb-Greetham, administrator of the Chickasaw Nation Division of History and Culture, also participated, the Mint reported.
Those who attended the event were able to buy uncirculated rolls of the quarters for their $10 face value.
The Mint is now selling uncirculated rolls on its website. The price for a roll from Denver and a roll from the Philadelphia Mint sold together as a set is $39.95 plus $4.95 per order for shipping and handling.
Telephone (800) USA-MINT, or visit the website at www.usmint.gov to order.
