There is some hope that Chinese counterfeits offered for sale online will become less available.

According to a statement released today by the Professional Numismatists Guild, starting Feb. 20 eBay will not allow replica listings or relistings in the coin category on its online auction website.

Perhaps oddly, nowhere in the release are Chinese counterfeits mentioned.

Instead there is a quote attributed to the PNG president highlighting the hurt suffered by people who did not realize that their Baldwin $10 replicas given away in cereal boxes 50 years ago weren’t real.

That seems like a strange way to illustrate a new alliance between PNG and eBay.
