The Central States Numismatic Society held a numismatic seminar Oct. 2. It was hosted by the Hutchinson, Kan., Coin Club and held at the First National Bank of Hutchinson.

The event’s speakers were all affiliated with the American Numismatic Association. Bob Campbell, past ANA president, spoke on counterfeit coins and coin toning. Cliff Mishler, current ANA president, discussed the importance of belonging to hobby organizations and contributing to the hobby. Wendell Wolka, current ANA governor, gave an illustrated presentation titled “Weird Obsolete Banknotes.”
Francis Hawks, Hutchinson Coin Club president, and his wife, Karen, were the originators of this seminar.
Central States encourages local member clubs to co-sponsor numismatic seminars and works with them to provide speakers and topics of their choosing. Central States has been conducting such seminars since 2006 and now has two per year at various locations around the 13-state area it serves.
The spring seminar for 2011 will be held April 2 at the Allen County Library in Fort Wayne, Ind. Featured speakers are Fred Reed, Chuck Daughtrey and Wolka. The seminar theme is “Abraham Lincoln.”
