The Oct. 25 meeting of the Citizens Coinage Advisory Committee was cancelled because of a new Treasury directive intended to save money that was issued in mid October.
From now on, all conference activity that involves travel and food expense must be cleared by a deputy secretary of the Treasury before it can be conducted.
Tom Jurkowsky, the Mint’s director of public affairs, said the Mint did not have time to follow the new rules, so the Oct. 25 CCAC meeting was cancelled.
It is expected CCAC will meet after Thanksgiving, but details were still being worked on. First Spouse designs for 2013 and America the Beautiful designs for 2012 are expected to be on the agenda.
