The 25 most valuable Carson City coins are the topic of a feature by Rusty Goe in the summer issue of Curry’s Chronicle, the journal of the Carson City Coin Collectors of America.
Liberty Seated Collectors Club President president John McCloskey adapted his article from the Gobrecht Journal, entitled “A Statistician’s View of the Magnificent Battle Born Collection of Carson City Coinage.” In it, he provides his Percentage Rank calculations for each of the 111 pieces in the Battle Born Collection, and offers numismatists a formula for comparing the condition ratings of the coins in this set with those of “CC” collections in the future.
In an article entitled “Assembling a Carson City Hoard Morgan Dollar Type Set,” John Kroon discusses the relative scarcities of both General Services Administration and Redfield Hoard Carson City Morgan dollars, and explains how a collector can build “a meaningful set” of CC coins with just two pieces.
Mark Archambault updates readers on his CC half dollar set’s progress, in his article, “My Carson City Half Dollar Set – the New Additions.”
John Crane adds “In Love with Love Tokens” to his list of articles for his “Crane’s Carson Coin Corner” column. He reviews different types of love tokens, and laments the difficulty of finding examples with the “CC” mintmark.
Peter Eichbaum offers his first article, “Expanding My Carson City Coin Education,” which tells readers why membership in the Carson City Coin Collectors of America is right for him.
Weimar White provides information on one of his favorite pieces of exonumia, the Nevada Centennial medal. Tom DeFina provides a word-search puzzle.
The club will have a meeting at the ANA’s World’s Fair of Money Aug. 15 in Rosemont, Ill., and a second at the Nevada State Museum’s coin show Aug. 23 in Carson City, Nev.
