A 1795 Capped Bust half eagle leads highlights in Bowers and Merena Auctions? Orlando Rarities Sale, set to take place Jan. 8 in Orlando, Fla.
The gold $5 is a variety classified as BD-2, Miller 3, and is graded MS-64 by Numismatic Guaranty Corp.

?Only 20 to 30 examples of the 1795 BD-2 half eagle are believed to have survived, and the near-gem that we are offering here is undoubtedly the finest example available for private ownership, if it is not the finest known,? said Steve Deeds, president of B&M.

The firm?s Jan. 8 sale consists of 670 coin lots and will be held at the International Plaza Resort & Spa in Orlando?s entertainment district.
Double eagle highlights include a Roman numerals 1907 Saint-Gaudens High Relief graded MGC Proof-67, a 1931 Saint-Gaudens graded MS-65 by Professional Coin Grading Service and a proof 1901 Liberty in PCGS Proof-66 Cameo.

A 1796 Capped Bust $10 gold piece in NGC AU-58 will cross the block, as will a NGC Proof-66 Ultra Cameo 1874 gold $5.

A gold 1915-S Panama-Pacific Exposition $50 round in NGC MS-65 tops commemorative gold offerings.

Outside of gold, the sale holds an 1892-S Morgan dollar in PCGS MS-64 and a 1901 Morgan in NGC MS-65.

B&M will also offer a 1927-S Standing Liberty quarter graded PCGS MS-65 Full Head.
