The Colonial Coin Collectors Club’s 2012 Lifetime Achievement Award was presented to Kenneth E. Bressett by C4 President Jim Rosen Aug. 11 at the American Numismatic Association World’s Fair of Money in Philadelphia.
Bressett is a founding member of the Rittenhouse Society, founded in the late 1950s. His seminal work on Vermont coppers led to a major article on the subject in 1976, published by the American Numismatic Society in Studies on Money in Early America.
He is best known as editor of A Guide Book of United States Coins, also known as the Red Book, and has authored numerous numismatic books and articles.
Bressett is a recipient of a number of ANA awards including the Farran Zerbe Award, one of the association’s highest honors. He is also a past governor, vice president and president of the ANA.
Also honored was the club’s publication, The C4 Newsletter. It was selected by a panel of judges to receive the second-place 2012 ANA Outstanding Specialty Club Publication Award.
The newsletter, published quarterly since August 1993, offers articles ranging from state coinage to counterfeit English halfpennies. Its current format is 8 by 11 and includes color images.
The award was presented to C4 editor Syd Martin by ANA President Thomas Hallenbeck, ANA Executive Director and Publisher Jeff Shevlin and ANA Vice President Walter Ostromecki Jr.
C4’s annual dues of $25 include four hard-copy newsletters per year, the option to attend the yearly convention and participation in an auction including material consigned by C4 members. Membership inquiries should be emailed to Charlie Rohrer at RohrerC@cadmus.com.
The 2012 convention will be held in conjunction with the Whitman Baltimore Coin Expo Nov. 14-18. Visit www.colonialcoins.org for more information.
